Yep. This is me.
I’m just getting started, too.
This is a blog about music. And travel. I’ve been a musician since I was eleven years old. Travel, on the other hand, is more of a new thing for me. I’ll be leaving my home in the U.S. to travel the world (or parts of it, at least) in July of 2012.
Along the way, I’ll be making a serious attempt to re-engage the innate musical inclinations I’ve been subconsciously suppressing for the last eight years or so.
You see, ever since I “grew up” – that is, went to college, graduated, and spent the last few years making a living – I’ve become disconnected from music, which was the single most significant force in my life for much of my childhood and adolescent years. I suppose this kind of thing happens to a lot of people as they put their passions on hold so they can succeed in the “real world.”
To be quite frank, music was my first love.
WARNING: I play the acoustic guitar and sing, so if you’re not into that, now’s your chance to scoot. As I attempt to recharge my songwriting prowess, I’ll be blogging about it here. Expect posts about music, my travels, and other related topics.
No uncalled for tirades about irrelevant subjects, though. Promise.
This is not a typical travel blog.
Not even close. While I do plan to post recordings of original musical material, I’m not going out of my way to post gallery after gallery of gorgeous travel photos I took with some fancy-schmancy digital SLR.
In fact, I’m not even bringing a digital SLR around the world with me. The thought of having thousands of dollars worth of equipment stolen or broken on a Central American chicken bus kind of… bothers me, you know?
This is a travel blog in the sense that it views traveling as a means to an end: Through travel, I’ll expose myself to new musical styles, new people, and new situations that will influence what I create. That’s not the only reason I’m traveling, but it is what this blog is all about.
Oh, yeah. I’m not doing this alone.
My lovely fiancée (who actually will be my wife by the time this thing gets going) will accompany me on the trip. As a whole, our travels are just as much about her as they are about me.
Ok, ready for a cliché? Cool. We’re excited about this adventure and look forward to sharing our experiences with you!
Whew! Now that that’s over with, here’s a disclaimer: I’m a pretty cynical fellow.
If you dig that – and you dig hearing a good, honest tune – you’re in the right place.
