Ever since I realized in 2009 that WordPress was a content management system for self-hosted domains and not just a free hosting service for bloggers, I have gone absolutely hog wild with it.
To tell you the truth, it’s a cinch that I’ve spent more collective hours fiddling with WordPress settings and playing with themes than I have actually blogging. Sad, but true. But that’s finally about to change.
Why? Because I’ve gotten rid of my shit-kickin’ awesome premium WordPress theme (Thesis) and settled on the most basic, stripped-down, minimal alternative I could find on the interweb sewer. This bad boy won’t allow me to screw with settings and options because there just aren’t any to fool with. Thank God.
So what?
Good question. I hope making this change will help me focus on the content, which was really the point all along.
What’s more, I think the spartan design will properly reflect the kind of life I plan to live (and write about) going forward. I’m going to do a post about that really soon, actually.
Expect everything on here to be really simple from this point on. That means mostly black and white photos, no frills, and no gimmicks. Just content.
Will I stick with it this time?
Who knows? Everything I’ve just written might end up being utter bullshit.
I’ve learned not to trust myself very much regarding what this blog will “be about,” so to speak. After all, I’ve had the domain name for over a year now, and I’ve only posted a few things. All of which I ultimately decided didn’t “fit” very well and sent to the garbage heap.
I suppose it’s good, then, that I never fancied having a tattoo. The result, I’m sure, would be similar.
So, yeah. Enjoy my new-found bloggerly asceticism. In blogging as in life, it’s better to focus on the bare essentials and ignore the noise. That’s what I’m hoping for, anyway.
